I went balling the other night
I started drinking and got real tight
I blew each and all my friends
I felt so good I had to blow it again
I said hey bartender
Hey man, looka here
A draw one, draw two, draw three, four glasses of beer
Well I saw a chick sitting on the end
I said baby can?t we be friends
You?re looking sweet as you can be
Well come on down and drink with me
I said hey bartender
Hey man looka here
Draw one, draw two, draw three, four glasses of beer
Elwood!
Well we was having so much fun
I didn?t know it was half past one
I turned around to have on more
I looked at the clock and it was half past four
Hey bartender
Hey man look a here
A draw one, draw two, draw three, four glasses of beer
Well jukebox girl is everything
All the cats began to sing
I heard somebody called and said
Last round for alcohol
I said hey bartender
Hey bartender
Hey bartender
Hey bartender
Draw one, two, three, four glasses of beer

Alice in Chains is excellent anger music, I agree with those above on that. Also Rob Zombie and AC/DC work for me. BTW, one of my friends went to high school with Marilyn Manson for all you Manson fans.

I wonder how many JW's would actually be happy if the Org crumbled?
by JH ini wonder what percentage of witnesses would be happy if the org.
crumbled, and they could be set free and live a normal life?.
any clue?

I think quite a few would be happy. I know my sister secretly confided in me she goes because that's all she knows and the family would give her grief if she quit. But she said she no longer believes any of it as not one thing they ever said has happened. I also think shrinks would see a huge influx of patients.

Littletoe, if there were like any rules in Rugby maybe I could get on board with it. Looks like a game we used to play when I was a kid called "smear the queer" (ABSOLUTELY NO INSULT TO THE GAY COMMUNITY INTENDED HERE) where everybody just chases the guy with the ball until they catch him and pound the crap out of him.

A question for bible believers...
by Qcmbr insince the bible was put together after the christian 'church' was formed, since the ot was largely superceded by the teachings of jesus and finally since the new testament was largely a series of letters to individual churches - why do we put so much credence on a set of translated scriptures written by a culture seperated from our own by 2000 years?
and as a back up to this question - if the canon of scriptures are clearly not the sole basis of the early christian church - what should the church be built on?

Qcmbr, I started a thread a couple of days ago along very much the same lines where I said that I had a chance to discuss the issue with a Jesuit Priest. The doctrine is called Sola Scriptura, the idea that everything one needs is found in the bible and thus the church came from the bible. The Catholic/Orthodox view is that the bible was a product of the church and that many practices and beliefs were handed down by Jesus and the apostles (why they make such a big deal out of the claim of apostolic succession) in the form of tradition and church teaching guided by the Holy Spirit (ie. the keys to the kingdom given to the apostle). So, the priest's answer to your question would be a combination of scripture along with the traditions of the church that have been handed down since the time of Christ. I'm not saying I buy this, I'm just relating one answer I was given to a similar question.

Well, from the looks of it, those boys would have to bulk up a little if they want to play ball on this side of the pond.

Church from Bible, Bible from Church?
by Big Dog inafter leaving the borg and through research convincing myself that the wbts did not have the "truth" i began to read a wide variety of religous materials and tried to delve into as many faiths as possible.
i was curious what others believed and after growing up in such an insular faith i found it fascinating to learn about all the different philosophies and beliefs.
one particular issue i found especially interesting, and that was the issue of sola scriptura, " simply stated, the protestant doctrine of sola scriptura ("scripture alone") teaches that every teaching in christian theology (everything pertaining to "faith and practice") must be able to be derived from scripture alone.

The Jesuit's arguement did make a certain amount of sense, he pointed out the early christians were not like the JW's of today, or for that matter the Gideons, leaving a Bible in every hotel. I does sort of stand to reason that a lot of information was passed on orally, and that practices were instituted without being written down. It just seems there is so much emphasis placed on finding a scripture in the bible to support this or that, it did sort of make me wonder what the heck people did before bibles were mass produced, or for that matter before there even was a bible in the form we know it today.

After leaving the Borg and through research convincing myself that the WBTS did not have the "truth" I began to read a wide variety of religous materials and tried to delve into as many faiths as possible.
This is expressed by the Reformation slogan Quod non est biblicum, non est theologicum ("What is not biblical is not theological," cf. Dictionary of Latin and Greek Theological Terms: Drawn Principally from Protestant Scholastic Theology, Richard A. Muller, Baker, 1985). " I had never even thought of that before, and why would I now that I think about it, as the JW's were heavy fundamentalists to say the least. And when I would read Catholic literature I was really confused with all this talk of tradition, which of course to my JW trained mind was totally worthless. I had a chance to talk with a Jesuit Priest (and if any of you ever get the chance, take it, they are some of the most educated people on the planet and fabulous debaters) and he walked me through the basic concepts and boiled it down to the idea that I was taught the church was a product of the bible whereas he believed the bible was a product of the church.
I am just curious for those that put any credence on the bible and believe in God, what are your thoughts on the doctrine of Sola Scriptura? On the forum there seem to be some pretty impressive biblical/religious scholars and I would love to hear some of their thoughts on the matter.
